Background Of AIMS Advocacy

AIMS Advocacy is the operating name of Advocacy Information and Management Services Ltd, a Company limted by guarantee and registered as a Scottish charity.

We adopted the working name of AIMS Advocacy in 2005 in response to requests from people who use our service.

The Organisation aims to:

• Provide a range of independent advocacy support for citizens of North Ayrshire
• Help people develop the skills required to take an active part in resolving major issues in their lives
• Provide information and support to people who are already advocating for others
• Provide training in the field of independent advocacy

Our Directors

AIMS Ltd is managed by a board of directors with 9 members who are all volunteers. They bring a variety of skills and experience to their role which ensures that the organisation is well governed and managed.

 Our Staff

Our staff team have a wide range of experience in providing independent advocacy. They have received training to prepare them for their role. All are members of the PVG scheme in Scotland. In 2013 we became the first advocacy organisation to offer our staff access to NVQ qualifications in Independent Advocacy. 

How We Are Funded

Funding for the organisation comes from a range of agencies. This emphasises the independence of the organisation as it is not dependent on one funder. The support of our funders allows us to employ a team of fifteen, mainly part time staff and to provide a range of advocacy services.

We also undertake additional specific pieces of work related to advocacy, the income generated being re-invested in the core work of the organisation.
